Biologist stands down
Shi Yigong, a famous molecular biologist in the world, has submitted his resignation to the esteemed Tsinghua University in order to serve as president of the soon-to-be-inaugurated West Lake University in Hangzhou.
Shi and nine other individuals were founding members of West Lake Institute for Advanced Study in 2015. Shi is also the dean of the institute, the predecessor of the West Lake University, which is slated to be inaugurated later this year.
Shi expressed his gratitude for the cultivation, support and caring of Tsinghua University in the past years in an interview with China Newsweek.
Shi was an accomplished professor of molecular biology at Princeton University. After returning to China in 2008, he gave up his US citizenship and became vice president of Tsinghua University.
