Bridge update
THE two sections of the under-construction Zhijiang Bridge were successfully jointed together on Wednesday. The seventh bridge across the Qianjiang River is scheduled to open by the end of the year.
The 1,724-meter-long bridge has three lanes in each direction and is designed to operate at around 80 kilometers an hour. It cost about 2.95 billion yuan.
Once completed, traffic from Hangxinjing Expressway and Zhuantang Town can reach Binjiang District 30 minutes faster than before. The bridge will also relieve traffic congestion on Zhijiang Road.
