Building a railway

CONSTRUCTION started on a 265-kilometer railway linking Hangzhou and Huangshan, a city at the foot of Yellow Mountain in neighboring Anhui Province.

The railway is expected to reduce traveling time between the two cities to 90 minutes when it opens in 2018. The new railway is also expected to boost economic development along the way.

At a cost of 33.8 billion yuan (US$5.8 billion), the railway will have 10 stations.

The route will also allow Shanghai, Ningbo and Nanjing travelers to reach the mountain quicker, along with other scenic sights such as Qiandao Lake and Fuchun River in Zhejiang Province.
