Bus fire guilty plea

A MAN pleaded guilty to purposely setting a bus on fire, leaving 33 people injured, including himself, at a Hangzhou court on Wednesday.

Bao Laixu pleaded guilty to arson by the city’s prosecutors for the July 5 incident. Bao said he did it to take revenge on society and end his own life because he had no money to treat his tuberculosis.

The man suffered extensive burns and had his two feet amputated. He remains in hospital along with two other bus fire victims.

Despite his injuries, the Hangzhou Intermediate People’s Court ruled he was fit to stand trial and could use a bed in court sessions. No verdict was given on the court.
