HANGZHOU will deploy security guards on city buses to ensure the safety of passengers, officials said last week.

The guards will watch out for acts of arson and terrorism and they will be posted on buses of some main routes and during certain hours of the day.

The first group of guards have received combat and rescue training and will go on duty soon.

The city’s 11,000-plus bus drivers and bus attendants will also receive training to learn to assist security guards during an emergency.
