Bus video rewards
Hangzhou Public Transport Group said it will provide rewards to members of the public who film videos of public buses with “black tails,” or those that spew heavy pollutants.
Anyone seeing a public bus with a “black tail” is encouraged to take a video of more than 10 seconds and submit it to the group.
The group said not all “black tail” buses fail emissions tests. They said emissions may also be caused by a mechanical failure, overloading or improper operation by the driver.
The group did not specify the reward, but videos can be submitted until April 30.
The group plans to take 1,136 highly polluting buses out of service this year. By the end of next year, the group also plans to increase the number of natural gas buses from 1,000 to 2,000. The city now has 8,213 buses in service with two-thirds of them using diesel fuel.
