Called ‘to death’
A Hangzhou resident surnamed Li received more than 2,200 calls from people in various parts of the country on January 15, reports say.
The calls are believed to be the result of a malware bug known as “husini” — literally “call you to death” in English.
During the torrent of incoming calls, Li alleged that whenever he would answer his phone the other side would have already disconnected. Police say that most of the callers’ numbers are registered in Bengbu in Anhui Province, Yueyang in Hunan Province, Deyang in Sichuan Province and Dongguan in Guangdong Province.
Li reached out for help from his mobile service provider, but was reportedly told that it was not within the company’s rights to stop the calls.
