Carpooling insurance

The Dongxinyuan Community in Xiacheng District has negotiated a preferential carpool insurance policy with a local insurer. The policy is the first of its kind in Hangzhou and now covers more than 60 families.
The community has about 20,000 residents and nearly 2,600 cars that park within its walls every night, making it one of the largest residential compounds in the city.
To reduce traffic, the community encourages residents to carpool. In a further effort to support ride-sharing, community officials talked with an insurance company to arrange a special carpooling insurance plan.
The policy is premium-free for the first year and only available to Dongxinyuan residents. In the event of an accident, each injured carpool passenger can receive compensation of up to 30,000 yuan.
