Charging up
HANGZHOU plans to build 62 charging stations with 3,500 charging outlets for electric vehicles by the end of the year.
The city, which is a pioneer in the popularization of new-energy automobiles, presently only has 23 charging stations with 157 charging outlets.
There are 1,426 new-energy vehicles in the city, including 880 hybrid-electric buses that have racked up a combined mileage of more than 50 million kilometers, saving 3.5 million liters of diesel and 500,000 liters of gasoline annually.
In addition, the 2012 China International New-Energy Auto Show will be held in Hangzhou on August 10-11. The city will sign an agreement with San Francisco to jointly develop the new-energy vehicle industry.
Electricity shortage
Hangzhou's power grid will have a shortage of 1.9 million kilowatts this summer.
In extreme conditions, the gap will widen to 2 million kilowatts, including an 800,000kw gap in Qiaosi Town.
The city government has announced an electricity rationing plan, and enterprises will be ordered to cut power usage to guarantee residential use.
The plan gives priority to homes while industrial use of electricity will be strictly limited. When a power shortage reaches a high level, major power-consuming enterprises will only be allowed to use electricity two days per week.
Metro rules
Hangzhou transport authority is seeking public opinion about draft regulations for subway passengers.
The draft rules forbid passengers from eating food and taking folding bikes or pets onto carriages. They allow passengers to take one child under 1.3 meters to travel for free but have to buy tickets for additional kids.
When taking an escalator, commuters should stand on the right side, leaving the left side for people to walk up or down, the draft said.
The draft rules are expected to take effect this October before Metro Line 1 starts operation.
