Citizen shutterbugs show many facets of city and its people

HANGZHOU citizens have snapped more than 1,000 photos of their city and its people, showing the many facets of culture, the environment, the economy and leisure for which Hangzhou is famous.

The annual Hangzhou Citizens' Photography Exhibition winds up today after four days at the West Lake Cultural Plaza.

The annual exhibition was initiated in 2008; this year's show is the largest ever.

The works are displayed in 10 categories including, "The New Town," "Fairy West Lake" and "The Story of the Most Beautiful Mother and Niu Niu." The story is about a toddler Niu Niu who fell out from a 10th floor window in her apartment building in Hangzhou about three months ago. She was saved by Wu Juping, a passerby who reached out to save her, breaking her fall.

The photos of the Niu Niu story were taken by professional photographers of the Hangzhou Daily newspaper. The rest of the photos in the exhibition were taken by amateur shutterbugs.

The annual show also includes an exhibition of noted foreign photographers and an exhibition of classic photos from around the world.

More than 10,000 visitors have viewed the exhibition.

Date: Today, 9:30am-5pm
