City limits fireworks
Hangzhou will limit the time for setting off fireworks downtown during the Spring Festival to cut air pollution.
People can only set off fireworks on the lunar New Year Eve, first, fifth and 15th day of the Chinese New Year. Fireworks will be banned on the first working day after the festival at government offices, enterprises and markets. Traditionally, people set off fireworks on their first working day to pray for good business throughout the year.
The city will also reduce the number of fireworks retailers by 10 percent this year. There were 365 fireworks stalls last year, said Zhou Huaqing, a city work safety official.
He said only three wholesale companies are authorized to supply fireworks to retailers. Fireworks larger than 30mm in diameter can only be used by specialists.
People can dial 12350 to report violations, and they will be rewarded if their claims are confirmed.
