City triumphs in iDEALShanghai awards
HANGZHOU was awarded the most popular travel destination on the Yangtze River Delta this week at the first Shanghai Daily iDEALShanghai Awards ceremony, held in The Peninsula Shanghai.
The city shared the distinction with Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. They were selected from eight candidates.
Shanghai Daily presented iDEALShanghai awards to 49 entriesin 10 categories.
Wang Xinzhang, deputy director of Hangzhou Tourism Commission, accepted the award on behalf of the city.
"It's a great pleasure for Hangzhou to receive this recognition from the readers of Shanghai Daily," said Wang. "The award is an encouragement for Hangzhou and motivates us to do better and make Hangzhou not only the best tourist destination in the Yangtze River Delta, but also in the country and the world."
Wang Jian'er, deputy minister of Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China's Hangzhou Committee, said the award was "a good start." He said officials were also striving to make the city an ideal location for business.
The iDEALShanghai Awards went to the most popular restaurants, bars, travel destinations, hotels and airlines, selected by the public and a jury panel.
Shanghai Daily introduced the iDEALShanghai sub-brand in August to provide up-to-date city information for local expats and foreign visitors. It includes a weekly newspaper, a monthly supplement, a website (iDEALShanghai.com) and an iPhone app.
