Clean energy fair arrives
THE Fourth China International Clean Energy and Environment Protection Industry Fair with the theme "low-carbon economy" began yesterday in Hangzhou.
The fair exhibits up to 10,000 low-carbon technologies and products covering aspects such as solar energy utilization, sewage disposal and energy saving buildings.
Around 300 exhibitors are taking part, with 120 foreign enterprises including GE, Siemens and BMW. Part of the West Lake International Expo, it is organized by the Hangzhou Municipal Government, Euro-China Commercial Union and the local CECEP Industry Development Company.
"The fair is being held for the fourth consecutive year in Hangzhou, which proves the city is more conscious about the importance of energy conservation and environmental protection than other places", said Philippe Guelluy, deputy chairman of Euro-China Commercial Union and former ambassador of France to China.
Compared to the last three years, this fair is more international and professional, said the event's organizers, citing the fact that it boasts more international corporations and more specialized seminars.
The organizers also said that the exhibition's marketing has been improved, as many of the featured products are familiar in everyday life.
At the fair, BMW will introduce its newly launched Mini E car as an all-electric consumer model, which can reach up to speeds of 94 mph with an astonishing 204-horse power.
The local Zhejiang Supcon Information Technology Company, which makes the chubby, bantering Haibao Robot at the World Expo 2010 Shanghai, have limited edition mini Haibao robots available. The robots can dance and even speak simple phrases. They will cost 1,980 yuan (US$297.4) each.
The fair is open to the general public, since "environment protection technologies are not distant, and rather, they are involved with everyone's life", says Zheng Zhaohui, the general manager of CECEP Industry Development Company.
Date: through tomorrow, 9am-5pm
Address: Hangzhou World Trade Exhibition Center, 122 Shuguang Rd
Admission: Free
