Cleaner transport

HANGZHOU Environmental Group (HEG) will replace all tricycles and tractors with its standardized "clean and direct transportation system" to collect trash before September.

HEG, the only trash-treatment corporation based on landfill in Hangzhou, launched the system two years ago, bidding to minimize the environmental hazards of trash transportation.

Some 50 battery-powered cars have been put into use to replace the man-powered tricycles to collect trash from communities in the downtown area. HEG will continue putting 150 more cars in service to replace all 373 man-powered tricycles that are being used.

For suburban areas, HEG has launched 11 routes with 21 trucks with airtight containers to collect trash, replacing 59 tractors that were in use before.
