Community ‘facelift’

THE Hangzhou government is renovating the Mantoushan Community. All construction work should be finished by late June. The project includes widening the community’s roads, revamping houses and installing modern amenities.
Mantoushan was built in the 1950s. Restoration plans were delayed for several years due to complications with its location on a slopping hillside.
In recent years, the community has become a symbol of traditional life in Hangzhou thanks to its narrow alleys and older homes.
