Conference backers
TEN doctors, engineers, academics and artists were hired on Monday by the Hangzhou government as “Conference Ambassadors” to attract international forums to the city.
They include Wang Jian’an, president of No. 2 Hospital of Zhejiang University’s Medical College; Yan Jing, president of Zhejiang Hospital; Shen Dingli, director of the Center of American Studies of Fudan University; Zhou Wu, associate dean of the China Academy of Art; and Huang Jianyin, deputy secretary general of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies.
The experts are the fourth group to be named for a five-year term. They receive no payment from the city government.
The new ambassadors will use their professional clout to attract international and domestic conferences to Hangzhou. Their job is to collect conference information in their respective fields, serve as the local contact for conference organizers, help the city apply for hosting conferences and invite conference participants.
