THE CONSTRUCTION of Wangqiu Interchange kicked off recently at the junction of Wangjiang Road and Qiutao Road S. in Shangcheng District.
The multi-level interchange will have eight ramps leading to the elevated Qiutao Road S. and the Wangjiang Road Tunnel, which is also under construction.
The interchange is scheduled to open to traffic in June 2018, easing the long-standing bottleneck at the intersection and making transport between Qianjiang New Town and downtown Hangzhou much smoother.
Meanwhile, Wangjiang Road will be widened from four to six lanes before the Wangjiang Road Tunnel is put to use at the end of 2019. The project will alleviate the burden from Qianjiang No. 3 Bridge and No. 4 Bridge.
A plan has been made to build Wangjiang New Town, which is to become another engine of Hangzhou’s economy, like Qianjiang New Town also in Shangcheng District.
