Corruption battle
Hangzhou has sacked 124 village officials since last year and 931 public servants have signed pledges to sell their shares in publicly listed companies.
During his recent visit to Zhejiang Province, President Xi Jinping told local officials to stay vigilant against corruption.
Zheng Genzhu, one of the sacked officials, was the head of a village in Tonglu County. He embezzled 3.96 million yuan (US$649,180) of village funds to pay his gambling debts.
Wu Yongping, a community official in Yuhang District, took bribes totaling 1.07 million yuan when he was in charge of land leases and infrastructure projects.
