Croc confiscated
HANGZHOU Customs recently found a crocodile in the luggage of an Ethiopian man at Xiaoshan International Airport.
As the man could not provide any documents proving that he was legally in possession of the specimen, Hangzhou Customs confiscated it and held the reptile for further appraisal according to Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, and relevant Chinese laws.
People mailing, transporting or consigning wild animals or plants and their produce to or from China must provide import or export certificates from offices governing endangered species and apply for permission at a relevant customs office.
It was the first crocodile specimen confiscated by Hangzhou Customs this year.
