Culture conference
UNECSO-SPONSORED international conference "Culture: Key to Sustainable Development" will be held in Hangzhou from May 14 to 17.
This is the first international congress specifically focusing on the linkage between culture and sustainable development organized by UNESCO since the Stockholm Conference in 1998.
This will produce the Declaration of Hangzhou - a guide for the development of world culture over the next five to 10 years.
Hangzhou is dedicated to developing as a cultural city. Having previously been recognized internationally for its cultural heritage, Hangzhou was chosen by UNESCO to host the conference.
Hangzhou was appointed as UNESCO City of Crafts and Folk Art in 2012 - the first city of China to receive this recognition - while the West Lake was added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 2011.
