Date for tunnel
QIANJIANG Tunnel, connecting Hangzhou with the neighboring cities of Jiaxing and Shaoxing, is expected to open to traffic by the end of the year.
It will shorten the journey between Hangzhou and Shanghai by 70 kilometers to 130 kilometers.
A journey between Shanghai and Shaoxing, a historic city east of Hangzhou, will be reduced by almost one hour when the six-lane river tunnel opens.
The 4,450-meter-long tunnel, costing 3.6 billion yuan (US$571 million), crosses the Qiantang River.
