Demolition fines
DEMOLISHING a historic building in Hangzhou could earn the culprit a fine of up to 500,000 yuan, under newly drafted regulations by the municipal government.
These ban extensions or new construction in order to protect historical buildings.
The regulations also state that historic features should not be changed in the building, nor in interdependent properties, without authorization.
And if road renovation is required, the traditional style and environment should be maintained, while new facilities such as roads, passenger and cargo terminals, bus parking lots and gas station are banned.
Individuals breaking the regulations will be fined between 10,000 to 70,000 yuan, while companies and other bodies face penalties of between 50,000 yuan and 500,000 yuan.
