Development of graphene

THE Hangzhou Graphene Industry Union was founded on April 7 as a non-governmental platform for cooperation among graphene researchers, manufacturers and service providers.

Zhejiang University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and Hangzhou Normal University are members of the union. They all have labs in graphene research and product development.

In 2013, a Zhejiang University research team led by professor Gao Chao succeeded in producing graphene aerogel, which is the lightest solid material on earth and weighs only 0.16 milligrams per cubic centimeter, less than one-fifth of the weight of nickel aerogel made by American scientist in 2011.

“The Hangzhou Graphene Industry Union provides a platform for scientists and enterprises to pool resources and build an industrial chain for graphene production,” said Gao at the founding ceremony.

Hangzhou companies have made significant progress in the application of graphene in many products, such as air purifiers, electric devices and smartphones.
