Diplomatic history

AN exhibition reflecting major diplomatic events in the city of Hangzhou between 1949 and 1980 is taking place at Hangzhou History Museum on Beishan Road.

There are photos showing US President Richard Nixon and his wife visiting Hangzhou in February 1972, accompanied by then Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. They toured the West Lake and the Lingyin Temple and Nixon presented four redwood and sequoia saplings as a gift to Hangzhou.

Another photo shows French President Georges Pompidou visiting Hangzhou in September 1973, also accompanied by then Premier Zhou Enlai.

The exhibition is open to the public for free from 9am to 5pm, daily except Mondays, and will close on September 26.
