Doors get QR codes

Thirteen doorplates with QR codes will be installed on Yan鈥檃n Road in Xiacheng District by the end of the year, Hangzhou Toponym Office said.

By scanning the QR codes with a smartphone, passengers can find the names of the occupants, an introduction to the area, a map and information on transportation, including bus, Metro and public bike stations nearby.

So far, the operator has completed information for 179 doorplates along 10 main streets south of Wenhui Road in Xiacheng District.

For landmark architecture buildings along those streets, information on their history will be available in both Chinese and English language so that foreigners can get a better idea of the significance of the surrounding area.

Several other roads will also get 鈥渟mart鈥 doorplates, and the district officials said that a 3D map system is also under way.
