Double WorldSkills gold

Jiang Yingcheng, a 22-year-old teacher from Hangzhou Technician Institute, was awarded 500,000 yuan (US$78,125) for winning the gold medal of car painting at the 44th WorldSkills Competition in Abu Dhabi last year.

Another 500,000 yuan prize was given to Jiang’s team. Both prizes are exempted from income tax.

It’s also the first time a nation has won a gold medal twice in succession as Jiang’s colleague Yang Jinlong won the gold medal at WorldSkills Competition held in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2015.

“You proved your value with your diligence, hard training and exquisite skills. It is a great contribution to Hangzhou,” Mayor Xu Liyi said when meeting the participants after the 44th WorldSkills Competition.

Wang Qin, a teacher at Hangzhou Grand Canal Technical School won an outstanding award in hairdressing.

Wang and her team each won 150,000 yuan as prize money.
