Dream exhibition of animation feature
"THE Dreams of Jinsha" - a Chinese movie shortlisted for a Best Animated Feature Oscar - has taken the title of best foreign animated film in the International Family Film Festival in Los Angeles, this month.
The film, a co-production by Hangzhou C&L Digital Production Company and Huaxia Film Distribution Co, tells the story of modern-day boy Xiao Long who travels back in time 3,500 years and helps save ancient Jinsha Kingdom.
The movie has been praised for combining a strong Chinese classic aesthetic with international technical standards.
And now "The Dreams of Jinsha" can be appreciated in another way as 53 images from the movie are on show at the Amanfayun resort in Hangzhou.
These are displayed in two parts. The modern part shows images of modern buildings and a modern way of life. Meanwhile, the ancient part shows ancient Jinsha.
Connecting these two worlds is a sunbird, which in the movie provides a path between modern and ancient.
"The Dreams of Jinsha" is one of the few successes in Chinese animation, and first Chinese animation film nominated for an Oscar," says the film's director Chen Deming.
"'The Dreams of Jinsha' represents Chinese culture and dreams. Through the comparison of modern time and ancient time, we enjoy the charm of art. The film focuses on delivering beauty and potential goodness, not on preaching," says Chen.
For the launch of the exhibition, singer Shi Jiayang sang the movie's song "A Magical World in My Dreams."
General manager of Amanfayun, Lukasz Prendke, said he was delighted to host the exhibition.
"I had a dream of going back to ancient times when I was very young," said Prendke. "'The Dreams of Jinsha' gives me a chance to imagine this and the exhibition gives me a real feeling of the ancient."
Director Chen says he's proud of the film, though has a tinge of regret too as he believes he could have made it better.
However, Chen says the film represents a new start of Chinese animation, and the team members are now well prepared for their next film.
