A Hangzhou man was caught for illegally selling medicines which can be used to refine drugs. The involved amount in the case reached more than 4.5 million yuan (US$675,650).

Hu also illegally purchased more than 90 kilograms of tramadol hydrochloride, which is a state-controlled drug.

Swiss Lake Pavilion

The Switzerland Pavilion from the World Expo 2010 will reappear in the Thousand Island Lake area of Hangzhou, with the popular cable cars remaining.

Zhejiang Zhongye Group won exclusive authorization for the Switzerland Pavilion reconstruction and 6,000 solar energy boards at a total cost of 7.02 million yuan (US$1.08 million) last month.

Zhongye Group chose the Thousand Island Lake as the reconstruction location because it's the best demonstration area for the interaction between urban and rural areas.

The reconstructed pavilion will keep the same appearance as the original one, while the inner arrangement will be adjusted slightly to meet new requirements. In addition, the cable cars will remain and be improved in function.

According to Zhongye Group, the construction project is expected to begin six months from now.

Better buses

Hangzhou's hybrid electrical buses have recently received technical improvements and are now able to run much more smoothly than before.

The deep green-colored buses use electric power to start the engine and oil to keep it running. It has proven to be pretty energy-efficient but with an embarrassing problem - it may run out of power during operation and it is not possible to restart the engine so there is nothing it can do except stop on the road.

However, the problem has now been solved by installing an extra battery on the bus, which will help start the engine when the main battery has run out of power.

There are more than 300 of these buses running in Hangzhou. With the problem solved, the city is planning to put a further 195 new buses into service.
