Drug gangs busted
HANGZHOU police announced last week that they had destroyed two big armed drug gangs, capturing 93 suspects and 8.7 kilograms of drugs.
The announcement came on the eve of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Police said they also seized imitation guns, bullets, bows and weapon-grade knives.
Last Tuesday, a car was stopped on the Hangzhou-Anhui Expressway and armed police caught three suspects in the car, including a man surnamed Tan, in his 30s, who was believed to be the head of a drug mafia.
Tan moved from Chongqing to Lin’an, east of Hangzhou, in 2009, and made a fortune smuggling drugs from Guangdong Province. He became a target after police received a tip-off.
Police caught 46 suspects in Lin’an and uncovered nearly 3 kilograms of methamphetamine in Tan’s car. Many of the suspects had criminal records.
In Xiaoshan District, police have caught 137 suspects in 598 drug cases so far this year and seized 4.7 kilograms of illegal narcotics, mostly methamphetamine.
