Electric car charging

A housing development in Xiaoshan District will be the first residential community in Hangzhou to have charging poles for electric cars, when ready for occupation next year.
The number of charging poles in Qianjiang Century City has not yet been finalized as the developer is still calculating the actual need.

Hangzhou now has 62 battery-charging and replacement stations for electric vehicles. But only 10, mostly in downtown, are in service due to a lack of customers.

Most drivers of electric vehicles prefer changing batteries instead of charging them because a quick charge will take at least half an hour and a full charge eight hours - too long for most drivers, especially cabbies.

"We all choose to change the battery as it just takes five minutes, rather than having to charge it," a cabbie surnamed Xu said.
