Enjoy some rural relaxation at happy farmhouses
"HAPPY farmhouses" -- in which local farmers provide accommodation, food and entertainment to guests - have thrived in recent years. This is thanks in part to the comparatively low rates - usually between 50 yuan and 150 yuan (US$8.2-24.5) per person, per day.
And with growing numbers of people living in cities longing for some fresh air and an escape from the stresses of daily urban life, happy farmhouses look set to become even more popular.
Hangzhou is no exception, with counties under its jurisdiction, including Tonglu, Fuyang and Lin'an, famed across China for their picturesque scenery.
Moreover, roads and other infrastructure there have been upgraded in recent years, attracting more and more visitors from Hangzhou downtown and cities in Jiangnan (regions in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River).
As the temperature climbs, the happy farmhouse season also soars toward its peak.
Having driven to their lodgings, guests generally stay for a day or two, exploring the naturally beautiful villages, fishing and appreciating homemade cooking.
Shanghai Daily has chosen four noted happy farmhouse hot spots, where readers should be guaranteed some rural relaxation this summer.
