Fewer calls for firefighters
HANGZHOU FIREFIGHTERS received only 38 phone calls during the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, a 61.6 percent decrease from the same period last year as the city banned fireworks in downtown districts.
Local police raided eight illegal fireworks stores and seized more than 1,300 boxes of fireworks.
Fireworks are banned in Shangcheng, Xiacheng, Jianggan (including Xiasha), Gongshu, Xihu and Binjiang districts, according to new rules adopted in October.
People are allowed to set off fireworks in designated areas in Xiaoshan, Yuhang, Fuyang, Tonglu, Chun’an, Jiande and Lin’an. Fireworks wholesalers and retailers must be approved by authorities.
