Focusing on Asia
HANGZHOU Asian Film Festival opens today at Cinyo Cinema, showcasing 54 pieces of work by 15 young Asian film directors from eight countries, including Japan, South Korea, Iran and Iraq.
The festival, which runs until October 20, will see films screened in cinemas and colleges, plus three lectures and a forum - all of which are free.
The annual event started in 2009, and this year 483 short films were submitted by Asian directors. Five will receive awards from an international jury.
The festival is divided into three parts: the main program which is the Shine Asia-Shorts Competition; a special program that includes several sections devoted to diverse cinematic topics; and festival events themselves - screenings, lectures and the public forum.
