Forum provides chance to brainstorm

THE fifth Shanghai (Hangzhou) International Library Forum (SILF) starts today and runs through this Friday.

For the first time the forum will be held outside Shanghai and Hangzhou Public Library will be the main venue.

The topic of this year's forum is "City Life and Library Service." It coincides with the World Expo theme - "Better City, Better Life."

The biennial forum, conducted in an era of fast growth in the information industry and the globalized development of libraries, provides opportunities to brainstorm on the latest innovative measures and future trends of library science and service.

With better media coverage and wide recognition within library circles, the forum combines keynote speeches, a plenary session and individual seminars.

More than 300 IFLA senior officials, library directors, professionals and experts from the information sector, researchers and people from other fields will attend the forum.

The forum will also include the 7th Chinese-Japanese International Seminar for Librarianship.
