Good Samaritan cash

THE Hangzhou government has raised the top reward for Good Samaritans from 200,000 yuan (US$32,367) to 300,000 yuan, to encourage more people to help others.

The top sum goes to the families of those who lose their lives through heroic acts. The amount paid to someone injured helping others has gone up from 60,000 yuan to 100,000 yuan, while the award to those who suffer severe injuries is increased from 100,000 yuan to 150,000 yuan.

In addition, Good Samaritans will receive the same privileges for medical service as model workers.

The city fund was established in 1992. By the end of last year, Hangzhou had rewarded a total of 421 individuals. Last year, the city distributed 622,000 yuan in awards.
