Government considers ways to improve tourism
HANGZHOU government is now considering opening more scenic spots to citizens for free, including popular Yuefei Temple, Hangzhou Zoo, Hupao Park and Bamboo-lined Path at Yunqi. The aim is to boost the local tourism industry.
Most downtown scenic areas are free for sightseeing, but still some charge a fee. Now, those operated under governmental subsidy are expected to open free for Hangzhou locals in the future.
Other scenic spots might offer preferential prices to the disabled, the elderly, adolescents, students and soldiers.
The government might even upgrade infrastructure in order to meet increasing demand. Scenic spots are now required to be equipped with nursery rooms.
The government will try to crack down on “black tour guides.” Tourists are encouraged to complain to governmental departments, and fines for these black guides can range from 2,000 yuan (US$299) to 20,000 yuan.
Online agents that offer hotel bookings and flight tickets are required to post a license on their websites or risk a fine of 10,000 yuan to 30,000 yuan.
In the future, Hangzhou Police Bureau will dispatch special tourism policemen in scenic areas.
Tourism police already exists in Lijiang in Yunan Province and Sanya in Hainan Province. Hangzhou will draw from their experience.
Upgrading services is also a part of the government’s plan.
Hangzhou East Railway Tourists Center came into use early this month. It provides tourists with car rental and inquiry services.
The complex combines a transportation hub with tourism and commerce. There are also supermarkets that sell authentic Hangzhou specialties and travel agencies offering group tours for nearby scenic spots, like Wuzhen Town, Thousand Islands Lake and Putuo Mountain.
Since Hangzhou locals will have a seven-day vacation during the G20 summit, 11 cities in Zhejiang Province have distributed more than 1.1 billion yuan of tourism coupons to locals.
With a Hangzhou citizen card, residents could enjoy hot springs for free as long as they lodge in a hotel in Wuyi County. Quzhou offers 15 scenic spots for free, while Jinhua provides discounted tickets.
