Hangzhou hosts expats at lively annual Lunar New Year's bash

BELGIAN expat Lesile de Vries takes the stage, playing the guitar and singing original songs, including a Chinese love song to his Chinese wife.

De Vries was one of the 80-plus foreigners who celebrated the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year at the 2012 Hangzhou Expat New Year's Party.

Drum Line Band from Ghana and Marco Chiaro from Italy also performed.

The Expat New Year's Party has been held since 2009 by the Hangzhou Foreign Affairs Office and the Hangzhou International Information Exchange Center.

This year guests enjoyed a buffet, played games, put on talent shows and took part in luck draw to celebrate the coming Year of the Dragon.

Hangzhou is home to more than 8,000 permanent foreign residents, and the number keeps growing as the city's economy expands.
