Hangzhou shortlists slogans for final vote

HANGZHOU is now searching for Chinese and English slogans in an effort to promote the city around the world. After a series of professional surveys, two English slogans and eight Chinese slogans have been shortlisted.

Everyone can vote for their preferred slogan.

The Hangzhou Tourism Commission launched the surveys last September in cooperation with a consulting company. The goal was to create a slogan with the same lasting affect as “I Love New York,” “Hi Seoul” or “Where Else But Queensland?”

The surveys included market research, expert interviews, overseas investigations and consultations with expats living in Hangzhou.

Last year, the city received 3.16 million overseas tourists, 22 percent were Europeans or North Americans. However, those expat tourists said Hangzhou doesn’t have “distinct character” and is similar to other Chinese cities like Suzhou and Nanjing in Jiangsu Province, and Xi’an in Shaanxi Province.

Therefore, the tourism commission wants to select a slogan that will distinguish Hangzhou from other Chinese cities. The two English slogans and eight Chinese slogans have been chosen Hangzhou’s characteristics.

How to vote:

Follow the WeChat account 杭州旅游指南; send your ballots to the WeChat account in this format: “vote#the number of English slogan you picked, the number of Chinese slogan you picked#your name#your phone number.”

If you have a better slogan, please send a text in this format “slogan#the slogan you come up with#your name#your phone number.”

The vote ends on April 15.

The winning slogans will be published in Qianjiang Evening News and posted on the tourism commission’s WeChat account 杭州旅游指南.

Prize: Organizers will pick 100 voters and give them a USB drive that is shaped like a cartoon character.

English slogans:

1. Hangzhou, Living Poetry.
2. Hangzhou, Relax, Recharge, Rejuvenate.

Chinese slogans:

1 生活在杭州诗意在心头；
2 诗情画意最杭州；
3 美丽天城品质杭州
4 杭州，诗意栖居地；
5 杭州，生活自有诗意；
6 杭州，闲与适，心自得；
7 闲情逸趣是杭州；
8 杭州，悠然之境，闲适之城。
