Hangzhou starts to limit cars in rush hours
STARTING from today, Hangzhou begins to limit cars from entering the downtown area at morning and evening rush hours according to the last number of their license plates.
Cars with the last number of 4 and 6 are not allowed to enter downtown area from 7am to 8:30am in the morning and from 5pm to 6:30pm in the afternoon today, which is the first working day after the week-long National Day holiday. Tomorrow it will be cars with the last number of 5 and 0 at the same time.
The downtown area is surrounded by Liuxiang Road, Shixiang Road, Shiqiao Road, Qiutao Road, Fuxing Road, Old Fuxing Road, Hupao Road, Manjuelong Road, Wulaofeng Tunnel, Jiqingshan Tunnel, Meiling North Road, Jiulisong Tunnel, Lingxi South Road, Lingxi Tunnel, Xixi Road, Zijingang Road, Wenyi West Road and Gudun Road.
The limited cars can run on the above roads except Hupao Road, Manjuelong Road, Wulaofeng Tunnel, Jiqingshan Tunnel, Meiling North Road, Jiulisong Tunnel, Lingxi South Road, Lingxi Tunnel and Xixi Road in the rush hours, according to the rule.
In ordinary days, the full list for the limit goes as follows:
* Monday: 1, 9;
* Tuesday: 2, 8;
* Wednesday: 3, 7;
* Thursday: 4, 6;
* Friday: 5, 0.
The last numbers slated for today is for Thursdays and tomorrow is for Fridays as today and tomorrow have been swapped with the last two days of the holiday to make it a seven-day break across China.
Authorities have prepared 42 parking lots and more than 1,000 roadside parking spaces on the outskirts of the city for drivers to park their cars free of charge,.
In addition, Hangzhou Public Transport Group has added public bike renting stations around the parking lots and five special bus routes to cope with passenger surge during the peak hours.
