Harvard event
THE Harvard Summit for Young Leaders in China (HSYLC) kicked off in Hangzhou last week.
A total of 505 high school students from home and abroad attended the opening of the nine-day event held at Hangzhou No. 2 High School. Upon arrival, they were sorted into 12 houses modeled after Harvard University’s housing system.
HSYLC’s opening day featured speakers such as Chinese musician Hu Yanbin and founder of Chinese taxi-hailing mobile app Kuaidi Chen Weixing, who gave lectures about their personal stories of success. Throughout the summit, students attended various events held by seminar leaders from Harvard University and took part in different competitions and activities. With the G20 summit to be held in Hangzhou in September, HSYLC will also incorporate elements of Hangzhou’s local culture, history and entrepreneurial atmosphere.
Organized by the Harvard College Association for US-China Relations, the summit was first held at Shanghai High School in 2006 and later expanded to Beijing at the High School affiliated to Renmin University in 2010. This year’s summits in Shanghai and Beijing will kick off on August 14 and 15 respectively.
