鈥楬eaven on Earth鈥 a land of commerce and culture
HANGZHOU is a city that hits everyone with its dynamic serenity. The capital of Zhejiang Province in eastern China, Hangzhou is one of the must-see spots for those who are looking for the spirit of life.
All visitors, and especially locals, can feel a special atmosphere every day by walking through Hangzhou West Lake National Park and enjoying this great water scene that recently became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The West Lake is “the river of living water” that gives the park’s atmosphere relative independence and unique tranquility.
Hangzhou has earned the right to be called unique. Along with its many diverse new industries, including medicine, information technology, heavy equipment, telecommunication, fine chemicals, food processing and others, Hangzhou still retains its historical worth.
Nevertheless, after arriving in Hangzhou, one feels like they are in a modern city saturated with ancient Chinese culture. This juxtaposition fills everyone with a mysterious uncertainty, and the pleasure of deliberateness. This place makes the mind soar, which is probably why Hangzhou has traditionally been called “Heaven on Earth.”
The heritage that Hangzhou possesses will help it maintain its role as an important representative of Chinese culture and traditions. For example, in 2011 a mausoleum was discovered under the remains of Leifeng Pagoda, a main attraction in Hangzhou that was built in AD 975 and collapsed in 1924. Thus, even going through change, the city still keeps its unique past. The new Leifeng Pagoda was rebuilt on top of the ruins of the old one and was opened in October 2002. Nowadays, listening to the ancient heart of Hangzhou, examining its exhibits, masterpieces made of ivory showing episode in Chinese empires’ lives, all visitors can get involved with Chinese history.
The moment you reach the top of the pagoda reveals that Hangzhou is indeed a scenic city. Everyone can discover the West Lake levitating under colorful plants, opening its embrace in sinking Chinese willow trees. That’s the moment when one’s soul is overwhelmed with feeling.
