Here comes Aladdin
ROCKS flew over the audience and gold coins appeared from nowhere, stunning people who screamed and dodged in 3D living theater.
"Aladdin, the 3D Adventure of a Lifetime" opened yesterday in a charity show for disadvantaged children.
Everyone wore 3D glasses, but actually it wasn't a 3D movie - it was live.
The 90-minute show will be performed through tomorrow by Qdos Entertainment from the United Kingdom, one of the world's largest pantomime companies.
The cast includes local recruits.
The audience was filled with children from Hangzhou Children's Welfare Institute, children of migrant workers' families and athletes with disabilities.
"It's a social responsibility to ensure that disadvantaged people can enjoy the same fun as others," said Sun Peng, director of Tianpeng Media Co, one of the sponsors.
The show features state-of-the-art special effects, magic illusions, 3D magic and light-hearted singing and dancing.
Adapted from the "Arabian Nights," the stage musical tells the story about a poor boy Aladdin, with the help of a magic lamp and genie, defeats an evil wizard and wins the heart of a beautiful princess.
Though the story may be 500 years old, this particular 3D version has a modern backdrop and refers to PSP, Internet and other technology. There are songs by Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Whitney Houston; some traditional Chinese songs are also presented.
Date: Today and tomorrow
