Hero saves tourist

A Shanghai tour guide was treated like a hero after he jumped into West Lake to save a tourist from drowning on November 25.

Zhao Gangqiang, 32, a tour guide from Shanghai Spring Travel Service, was leading a group of travelers on a sightseeing tour around the lake when he saw a man in his 60s fall into the water while taking pictures. The man from Gansu Province in northwest China sank quickly.

Zhao jumped into the lake without hesitation and struggled to raise the man’s head above the surface. He then carried him toward the bank, where other people helped to pull them up.

Seeing that Zhao’s mobile phone and loudspeaker were damaged by the water, members of his tour group decided to donate money to him, but he refused.
