Highest tide
THE annual tidal bore of Qiantang River this year will hit its highest level in nine years. Qiantang River is known for one of the world's largest tidal bores. The tide rushing into the river from the bay causes a bore usually more than 1.5 meters high.
"Due to rains and floods this year, the water in the river is already quite deep, which will cause tides when the sea water rushes in," said Zhou Guangming, chief official of Hangzhou Maritime Bureau.
The best time to appreciate the annual event is on August 31 and September 15, according to Qiantang River Management Bureau.
