Holiday events

VISITORS to Qinghefang, a famous historical street in downtown Hangzhou, will find it full of festive fun during the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday.

From Chinese New Year's day on Sunday through next Friday, folk artists will put on masks along with dragon or snake costumes and pose for photos with visitors.

At 10:18am on Chinese Lunar New Year's Day, visitors will also be able to see a parade featuring historical figures from the fairy tale "Legend of the White Snake." The parade will start at Wushan Square and end on Hefang Street.

On Monday at the same time, another parade will feature a theme about fu (good fortune), lu (money), shou (longevity) and xi (happiness). Visitors will receive a free package of grain.

From Tuesday to Friday, banquets and market opening ceremonies will be held on the street to attract visitors. The celebrations are believed to bring good fortune to shops on the street.
