Holiday travel rush

HIGH-SPEED railway tickets for October 1, the first day of the weeklong National Day holiday, are selling quickly.

Tickets have already sold out to destinations like Wuhan in Hubei Province, Chongqing and Chengdu in southwestern China, Taizhou and Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province, Fuzhou and Xiamen in Fujian Province and Shenzhen in Guangdong Province.

Tickets to Hefei in Anhui Province, Beijing and Jinan in Shandong Province are also selling quickly.

High-speed railway tickets to Ningbo are still available on October 1, but tickets for 79 other bullet train services to the city have sold out.

Flight prices are most expensive on the first and last days of the seven-day holiday while tickets for October 3 to 4 are relatively cheap. For example, it costs around 1,600 yuan (US$262) to fly from Hangzhou to Beijing on October 1 or 7. The price drops 60 percent to around 640 yuan on October 3 to 4.
