Hot subsidy

THE high temperature subsidy was raised from 200 yuan (US$33) to 225 yuan a month, the Zhejiang Human Resources and Social Security Bureau announced last week.

The compulsory subsidy for workers in high temperature surroundings of above 35 degrees Celsius will be handed out from June to September.

The subsidy for workers in air-conditioned areas during the period is 145 yuan a month, rising 15 yuan from last year.

When the high temperature reaches more than 40 degrees, outdoor work should be stopped. On days when the mercury reaches between 37 and 40 degrees, workers should not work outdoors for more than six hours. And no outdoor work should be done during the three hottest hours of the day.

Pregnant women are banned from working outdoors when the highest temperature reaches over 35 degrees in order to ensure safety.
