Hyperthermia cases

Twenty-eight people have received treatment for hyperthermia, the critical stage of heatstroke, in eight major hospitals in Hangzhou.

The number of such patients has been unprecedented as a result of an extended heat wave. Hangzhou recently has more than a week of highs over 40 degrees Celsius, while some parts of Zhejiang Province reported highs of 43 degrees. Of the 28 heatstroke patients, 22 were over 60 years old. An 83-year-old man had a body temperature of 41.5 degrees and was treated at Zhejiang Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital.

Throughout the province, more than 2,000 people suffered from heatstroke from June 1 to August 7, up 64.45 percent from a year earlier, according to the Zhejiang Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
