Improving life in city

The Hangzhou government has announced 10 life-improving projects for 2015, in a report delivered to the city congress. They cover employment, the environment, food safety and transport.

The city will create 229,100 jobs this year and help 107,200 jobless people find work again, officials said.

A total of 30 polluted rivers totaling 37.6 kilometers in urban districts and 300 kilometers of rural rivers will be cleaned up this year. Meanwhile, 623 villages will get sewage systems, benefiting more than 190,000 homes, said officials.

On transport, the first phase of Metro Line 4 and the Xiasha extension of Metro Line 1 will go into operation this year, while the city will also add 10 bus routes, 100 bike rental stations, 3,000 public bikes and 46,000 car parking spaces.

For food safety, Hangzhou will cover all large and medium-sized catering companies with a food-safety monitoring system and strengthen supervision of small eateries, aiming to have at least 90 percent licensed.

Other green initiatives will see heavy polluting vehicles banned in the city and 2,500 new-energy vehicles take to the road.

Further projects include increasing public green spaces by 2.6 million square meters, establishing 1,300 parcel delivery stations, and providing legal assistance to 100,000 people.
