Innovation hub in Gongshu

THE State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and the Hangzhou government signed a memorandum of understanding on Monday to jointly establish an international entrepreneurship and innovation hub in Gongshu District.

Zhang Jianguo, administration director and vice minister of human resources and social security, signed the MOU with Hangzhou Mayor Xu Liyi. The hub will be located in the China (Hangzhou) Wisdom Information Industry Park.

So far, about 4,980 foreigners have founded businesses in Hangzhou and the city attracted 25,000 overseas professionals, including 15,000 expats.

They brought 9,822 new products and technologies and obtained 2,649 Chinese patents, including 388 invention patents.

Lucas Rondez, a Swiss national who is known with his Chinese name Hong Zhiyuan, was voted as one of the city’s Top 10 Young Entrepreneurs. He is the only foreigner to receive such an honor.

Rondez started to work at the age of 16 in Geneva. He quit his job in 2007 to move to China. He first worked at Hangzhou Bank and then joined the Ping’an Bank.

In 2015, he founded Hangzhou Boru Network Technology Co Ltd with 1.5 million yuan (US$220,588) from an angle investor. He developed a phone app, “Nihao,” that provides all kinds of services for foreigners in China. The app now has 130,000 users in more than 100 countries.
